The Camper

Andy and I have been wanting a camper for a few years.  We searched on and off for quite some time and just couldn't agree on what to get.  I dreamed of restoring a vintage tin can.  A traveling caravan with a wonderful retro feel.  Something like this...

That looked like this on the inside...

He wanted something manly with all of the bells and whistles of a new RV.  A place to put a TV and a comfy mattress to rest his head after a long day outdoors.

As you can see our ideas of RV camping were worlds apart.  But after thinking it over and deciding to make the transition from a tent to an RV we opted for a small expandable that would be easy to tow and set up for newbies like us.  Some people don't think that RVing is true camping and in a sense they are right.  After all we were never purists who insisted on roughing it, but we do enjoy the freedom and comforts that RVing brings while enjoying all the benefits of the great outdoors.

So without further delay... here is our Jayco Jay Feather 17c Ex-Port in the showroom at the dealer shortly before we purchased it.

The camper is a single axle ultra-lightweight that is 17 feet long unexpanded.  Here is the floorplan:

And this is the camper being pulled into a site for the first time.

And since it's an expandable... well here it is expanded.

And my happy co-campers... Andy and our little terrier Ellie.

Some pics of the comfy interior.

There's a toilet too, but I'll spare you the photo of it.... basically we've all seen one so there's nothing exciting there.

We've already made some changes to the camper.  We've added a shelf in the seating area, removed the large table (it turns into a bed, but since we don't need extra sleeping space it was just in the way and better used outside under the awning).

So, why did we choose this camper with all the other choices out there?  Well that's another post, so stay tuned for more as well as information on our first camping trip in it.
